Eid ul Fitr in 2023 has already gone underway. As usual, Ramadan has rushed by and we’re already deep into the last ten nights. More and more time is spent in the masjid, reading the Quran and doing those extra good deeds to squeeze the most reward we can.

Despite all this, naturally, our minds are starting to wonder about Eid ul Fitr, what are we going to do, what are we going to wear and what are we going to eat. Over here at Riwaya, we’ve created our list of what we think will be the best way to enjoy ourselves on Eid but also take over the good actions and deeds we’ve built up during Ramadan too.

    Eid ul-Fitr Tips

So here are our 5 top tips for Eid!

    1. Eat something light!

Before going to the Eid prayer, it’s good to eid something. This can be something small, or something sweet.

Top Tip: The Prophet Muhammad used to have an odd number of dates.

    2. Perform Takbir

Takbir is usually done at the start of Eid until the Eid prayer. This means after Maghrib on the day before we can start. Takbir usually is Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, wallaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, wa Lillahil-hamd

Top Tip: Takbeer should be recited on the way to the mosque in a soft voice

    3. Give some charity

One of the many beauties of Islam is the importance of charity and being community-led as a religion. What is Zakat al-fitr (or fitrana)? Fitrana is due for every person within a household and is usually the value of a meal. Remember to give this as early as you can so the receiver can get the money on the day of Eid

“The Messenger of Allah (saw) prescribed the Zakat al-Fitr as a purification of the fasting person from empty and obscene talk and as food for the poor. If anyone pays it before the prayer (of Eid), it will be accepted as Zakat. If anyone pays it after the prayer, that will be a Sadaqah like other Sadaqahs”. [Abu Dawud]

    4. Make an effort

The next generations of young Muslims are constantly bombarded with outside noise about Islam. It’s important to give them the grounding for them to practice their faith with confidence.

What’s one way of doing that? Making an effort on our holy days! Giving our children positive memories and associations with Islam is crucial.
So dress nicely, make amazing food and decorate the house

Top Tip: Try and have a day free of mobile phones and gadgets where the family participate in old favourites like Twister or Monopoly.

Competitions with prizes and talent shows in the garden; are all ways to make the day more memorable!
