Islam is a faith that emphasises fairness and equality. It rejects ruthless practices that aim to mislead and exploit customers. It honors individuals who acquired their money via diligent work.

Allah's decree ultimately determines who succeeds, but many use this as a justification for inactivity, however, Allah encouraged us to work hard in addition to dua for rizq, and belief, then do not worry about your rizq, Allah will handle the uncontrolled factors and bless you with what is written for you.

The Hadith that follows narrates the tale of Prophet Dawud's independence. In the words of Allah's Messenger:

"The Prophet David used to not eat except from the earnings of his manual labor."

    (Sahih al-Bukhari 2073)

What is the significance of Rizq in Islam?

Rizq is the Arab translation of sustenance, provision, or blessings. It refers to the divine providence that Allah provides to all living beings, Rizq encompasses not only material or financial resources but also includes health, knowledge, opportunities, and all the blessings that enable a person to live and thrive.

"Allaahumma innee assaluka ilman nafia, wa rizzqan tayyeebun, wa amalan mutaqabilan."

Translation: ‘O Allaah indeed I ask You for beneficial knowledge, and a good Halal provision, and actions which are accepted.’

Therefore, besides hard work, a true believer will ask for rizq from Allah through supplications.

Why is dua for rizq in Islam important ?

Dua for Rizq In Islam hold significant importance, which are represented in:

    • Acknowledgment of dependency, making dua for rizq is a way for Muslims to acknowledge their dependency on Allah for all their needs, including sustenance, it also reinforces the belief that Allah is the ultimate provider, and humans are reliant on His blessings and mercy.

    • Strengthening faith, where engaging in dua strengthens a person's faith and trust in Allah, while by turning to Allah in supplication, believers affirm their belief in His ability to provide, which deepens their faith and reliance on Him.

    • Expressing Gratitude, in fact, dua for rizq is not only about asking for more but also expressing gratitude for what one already has. Gratitude attracts more blessings, and acknowledging Allah's blessings through dua fosters a sense of contentment and thankfulness.

"As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, for them is forgiveness and a noble provision."

    (Ayah al-Hajj, verse 50)

Your Rizq is already planned by God

In Islam, the belief that Allah has already planned an individual's sustenance (rizq) since before their birth is based on the concept of predestination, also known as qadr or divine decree. According to Islamic teachings, Allah's knowledge is all-encompassing, and He has knowledge of everything, including what will happen in the future.

In this hadith following, we understand that Rizq, as with everything else in life, has been predetermined by Allah.

"Then (Allah) sends to it an angel who is tasked to breathe soul into it. The angel is then commanded to write down four matters: the writing of the developing child’s rizq, his life span, his actions, and whether he will be truly happy or miserable."

    (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)

    What you can do

For that reason, a true believer should not worry about his rizq after making sure that he has put all the necessary efforts, besides, Tawakul on Allah, means that a true believer should trust that Allah will handle all the things that are out of control.

Tawakul does not mean passive reliance without effort, rather, it emphasizes a balanced approach where a person trusts in Allah's wisdom and plans while actively striving and making efforts in their endeavors.

"Tie your camel first, and then put your trust in Allah."

    (Khadija Abdullah)
