“We enjoined upon man to be dutiful to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning lasted two years. Give thanks to Me and to your parents. To Me is your ultimate return.”

    (Surah Luqman, verse 14)

Are you searching for the best duas for your mother? You have come to the right place, my friend. This article is a compilation of the best Quranic duas for your beloved mother as a sign of expressing your gratitude towards her as well as seeking Allah's blessings in return.

May Allah reward our mothers with Jannatul Firdaus for all their sacrifices throughout our lives. Ameen.

I'm excited to write this article because I had just started my journey in motherhood.

    Motherhood and Personal Reflections

I became a new mom by the mercy of Allah last year on 8th of February 2023, Alhamdulillah. At exactly 12.48am, my little Maryam cried her heart out as she entered this dunya, tucked in the hands of a complete stranger. I don't blame her, leaving the comfort of my womb is nowhere near fun.

Nonetheless, she took the challenge with a stride and snuggled her way into a warm muslin.

The first time I saw her little face was on the hospital bed in my own little corner. The lights were dimmed as it was in the wee hours of the morning and all the other mothers were sleeping.

I stared at her for what seemed like eternity while giving her her first taste of milk. It was a sight that would forever be sealed in my memory, insyaAllah (if I don't get dementia or something.)

To be honest, she looked a bit weird at first. Her eyes were big but all her other features were small. Even her head looked disproportionately small making her look somewhat like an alien. (Sorry if you're reading this one day, Maryam. I still love you.)

But Alhamdulillah, who am I to complain?

I remember the first time she looked me in the eye. I'm not sure if she actually sees me but she looked so vulnerable yet attentive, searching for my face as if wondering who I was. 'You seem so familiar yet I don't know you.'

For the first few days of childbirth, all I was thinking is how this is all real. How did I became a mother in a blink of an eye? Part of the reason for this is I had a really smooth pregnancy Alhamdulillah. The kind that sometimes can even make you forget that you're pregnant because it was that smooth. SubhanAllah. I'm forever grateful, ya Allah.

For me, the whole pregnancy did not come with the exciting feeling of becoming a mother. It was the moment I received her in my arms and looking at her big searching eyes that made me instantly love motherhood.

I won't change it for the world.

Alhamdulillah, today my little Maryam is almost one and her two feet are diligently searching the floor, making a mess out of everything, as usual. (I'll let you know if I still love motherhood 10 years from now.

    1. Dua for Gratitude towards Your Mother

    “.وَٱخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِى صَغِيرًۭا”

    (سورة الإسراء، الآية ٢٤)

“And, out of kindness, lower to them the wing of humility, and say: "My Lord! bestow on them thy Mercy even as they cherished me in childhood.”

    (Surah Al-Isra, verse 24)

I love how this dua emphasizes the appreciation of a mother's child-raising years. It is as if Allah is acknowledging the struggles and sacrifices that every parent had to go through in those rewarding yet challenging years of raising small children.

If you are grateful to your parents, make this dua for them often for they raised you into the person you are today. Being granted the Mercy of Allah is the best gift anyone could ever receive so ask it for our parents, especially if you are currently struggling in your parenting days as a mother too.

May Allah give you the same Mercy as He bestowed on your parents.

    2. Dua for Mother's Health

    “.وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ”

    (سورة الشعراء، الآية ٢٤)

“And when I am ill, it is He (Allah) who cures me."

    (Surah Ash-Shu’ara, verse 80)

Some of our mothers may be facing health challenges due to old age or diseases. This dua for our beloved mothers will help remind them that Allah is the ultimate curer of all diseases.

If Allah says 'kun faya kun', 'Be and it is', any disease would be cured. But if Allah has destined that the illness is better for us in dunya and akhirah, then we should accept His decree with patience insyaAllah.

On a side note, we should remember that our Prophet Muhammad SAW forbids us to wish for death. Instead, it is better to make this dua.

    The Prophet said:

“None of you should wish death due to a calamity that has befallen him, and if he feels an urgent need to wish death, then he has to say: "O Allaah! Let me live as long as life is better for me, and take my life if death is better for me."

    (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

May Allah grant our mothers good health and strong iman and taqwa in facing health difficulties. Ameen.

    3. Dua for Mother's Happiness

    “.وَٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَٰجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍۢ وَٱجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا”

    (سورة الفرقان، الآية ٧٤)

“Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous."

    (Surah Al-Furqan, verse 74)

We all want our families to be righteous and it all starts with our mothers. They say mothers are the actual school for children. This dua is so simple yet so profound.

Having mothers and children who are the comfort of our eyes is the epitome of a great life. No amount of wealth or riches could ever replace the gift of a happy family filled with Mawaddah and Rahmah.

May we all make this beautiful dua for our mothers to send more goodness to her and may Allah prolong her life. Ameen.

    4. Dua for Mother's Forgiveness

    “.رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْحِسَابُ”

    (سورة ابراهيم، الآية ٤١)

“Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."

    (Surah Ibrahim, verse 41)

Seeking forgiveness is one of the most beloved deeds from a believer. We all sin one way or another and none of us are perfect but Allah said those who repent are the best of believers.

In this dua, Prophet Ibrahim a.s made dua for his father even though he was a tyrant who even tried to burn him in the fire. That just shows how much mercy we need to have for our parents in Islam.

Let's make this dua of seeking forgiveness for our parents in each of our Salah. When you ask for Allah's forgiveness for yourself, don't forget your parents who have raised you wholeheartedly into the person you are today.

May Allah remove our mother and father's shortcomings and increase their humility towards Him and his creations. Ameen.

    5. Dua for Mother's Overall Wellbeing

    “.وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةًۭ وَفِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ حَسَنَةًۭ وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ”

    (سورة البقرة، الآية ٢٠١)

“Our Lord! Grant us the good of this world and the Hereafter, and protect us from the torment of the Fire."

    (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 201)

Our whole purpose in life is to please Allah as much as we can in this dunya and akhirah, so what better way is there than to ask Allah for all the goodness that He can give us both in this world and the next?

This dua emphasizes that both dunya and akhirah are important. It is necessary to ask for the goodness of both dunya and akhirah and not neglect either one.

Balancing between deeds that seem solely for this dunya and ibadahs for akhirah may be a challenge at times, especially for mothers. Taking care of small children is no easy feat. The endless, diaper-changing, meal prep, crying on a daily basis can quickly take a toll on one's mental health.

So let's be mindful of our mothers and appreciate her by making this simple dua for her. Ask Allah to gift her plenty goodness in this dunya and the hereafter from His bounty.

That should be the most precious gift.

    6. Dua for Mother's Guidance from The Quran

    “.وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌۭ وَرَحْمَةٌۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًۭا”

    (سورة الإسراء، الآية ٨٢)

“And We send down the Qur'an that is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss."

    (Surah Al-Isra, verse 82)

In Surah Ar-Rahman, Allah mentioned that the first and most profound ni'mah or blessing He has bestowed upon mankind is the gift of guidance a.k.a The Magnificent Quran.

Can you imagine what would happen to us if Allah left us to figure out this entire universe all on our own without any reference? We would inevitably all be living in chaos.

Truth is, we do not have to look far to realize that without the guidance from The Quran, we have already made much destruction in the world.

The west, for example, is filled with ideologies that are totally against human nature (fitrah) such as the LGBT movement, feminism, secularism, liberalism and all kinds of 'isms' that are all based on human shallow thinking.

Mothers are the gatekeepers of the next generation of ummah - a generation filled with modern temptations and filthy ideologies.

As a new mother myself, I look at these issues and think to myself, 'Ya Allah, please protect my child, if I don't stick to your Quran and Sunnah I will definitely go astray.'

Let's make this dua of guidance for our beloved mothers. Guidance from the Quran is the best ni'mah or blessing Allah has given us.

We should always wish it for our mothers so that she will be well equipped to raise strong young Muslims of the next generation of ummah. Ameen.

    7. Dua for Mother's Protection from Syaitan

    “.وَقُل رَّبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَٰتِ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ”

    (سورة المؤمنون، الآية ٩٧)

“And say, “My Lord! I seek refuge in You from the temptations of the devils. And I seek refuge in You, my Lord, that they ˹even˺ come near me."

    (Surah Al-Mu'minun, verse 97)

Allah said the Syaitan is our number one sworn enemy. Thus, we should do our best to protect ourselves from him.

One way to do that is to make this dua for our mothers so that she will be protected from the Syaitan.

Syaitan will always be with us whispering his deceptions. Allah invites us to protect our hearts against him by asking Allah for protection and guidance from His Mercy.

    8. Dua for Mother's Protection from Hellfire

    “.وَٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا ٱصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا”

    (سورة الفرقان، الآية ٦٥)

“And those who say, 'Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering; indeed, it is evil as a settlement and residence."

    (Surah Al-Furqan, verse 65)

“Two eyes are forbidden from being consumed by the Hellfire: an eye weeping from the fear of Allah, and an eye standing guard for Islam and its people against unbelief."

    ((Shu’ab al-Imān, 3930)

Can you see how merciful our Lord is? This hadith gives us hope that no matter how much we sin, sincere repentance towards Him is all it takes to redeem ourselves.

Our mothers are human beings who make mistakes, just like we do. Some mistakes may be bigger than others.

When we are concerned about our mothers' wellbeing in the akhirah, we make this dua and ask Allah to protect our mothers from the punishment of hellfire.

Fear of being put into the hellfire even for a second in the hereafter is a sign of Iman and Taqwa.

You know that Allah is the Most Just, He punishes those who deserve it and rewards those who repent and do good deeds.

When seeking protection from the hellfire, we should also remember that Allah is immensely Merciful. He will not punish us so long as we sincerely repent to Him and do our best to become better Muslims moving forward.

So as Muslims, there should be nothing that concerns us more than pleasing our Creator each day.

    9. Dua for Mother's Ease in Difficulties

    “.فَٱذْكُرُونِىٓ أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ لِى وَلَا تَكْفُرُونِ”

    (سورة البقرة، الآية ١٥٢)

“So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me."

    (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 152)

This dua is simple but Allah reminds us to be grateful to Him even in difficult times.

Mothers often face high levels of emotional burden while taking care of everyone else's needs.

She suffers in silence so as not to burden those under her care. Thus, most of the time we may not even know the internal struggles that she is facing every day.

As grateful children, we can recite this dua for our mothers, reminding her that the one thing she needs most is to remember her Creator at all times.

Allah also says that remembering Him gives contentment of the heart.

    10. Dua for Mother's Provision

    “.وَمَن يَتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّهُۥ مَخْرَجًۭا ٢وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ ۚ”

    (سورة الطلاق، الآية ٦٥)

“And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect."

    (Surah At-Talaq, verse 65)

Mothers who fear Allah and have Taqwa are always under Allah's care and protection. Allah says He provides for them from places they never expected.

As a new mum myself, I've experienced this countless times Alhamdulillah. For example, whenever I feel hungry and we ran out of food in the house,  I would still end up with good food Alhamdulillah. Every time. You are probably the same. Have you noticed?

One time, I said to Allah in my heart 'Wouldn't it be nice to have nuts in this house?' I ran out of snacks and was thinking of something delicious yet healthy. Well what do you know?

That afternoon, my dad decided to take me out to this wholesale biscuit shop near our house and it was full of all kinds of nuts! I chose a few packets and ate to my heart's content.

    Conclusion

See a sincere dua for our mothers is the best gift any woman could receive from her children.
