Do you ever look at your child and feel a mix of love and worry? In a world where evil is so rampant, it’s natural to feel this way. Children are amanah (a trust) from Allah. We want to bring them up in the best possible way and wish them a happy and successful life.

One way to help them is through duas (supplications). By making dua for them, we can ask Allah to guide and protect our children and help them grow into good people. In this blog, we’ll share some beautiful duas you can make for your children’s protection and guidance.

      The Power of Dua

As parents, it’s easy to feel powerless in this uncertain world. But Allah has given us the most powerful means to protect our kids, that is dua (supplication), something that no one can stop. The strength of a parent’s dua is unimaginable.

Do you remember the story of Prophet Musa (AS) and his mother? When his mother placed him in a basket to save him from Pharaoh. She was terrified but still placed all her trust in Allah, believing that he would protect him. It was because of this immense trust that Allah raised her ranks and Musa (AS) was returned to her.

This incident shows how impactful our prayers and trust in Allah can be. Our Prophet (PBUH) said,

“Three supplications will undoubtedly be answered: the supplication of one who has been wronged; the supplication of the traveller; and the supplication of a father for his child.”

      (Sunan Ibn Majah, 3862)

So remember, when you pray for your child, those prayers are heard and answered. Keep reading to find some duas you can recite for your children.

      Beautiful Duas for Our Children

Below is the list of duas you can make for your children:

      1. Dua for Children’s Protection from Harm

The following is the dua that the Prophet (PBUH) used to make for Al-Hasan and Husain (RA), you can make the same dua for your kids to shield them from every harm:

أعيذكما بكلمات الله التامة من كل شيطان وهامة ومن كل عين لامة
A'idhukuma bi kalimat Allah at-tammah, min kull shaytan wa hāmmāh, wa min kull 'ayn lāmmah.
‘I seek protection for you in the Perfect Words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every envious blameworthy eye.’

      (Al-Bukhari 4/119)

If you want to protect your children against the devil or evil eye, you should read this dua (supplication).

      2. Dua for Our Children’s Upbringing

As parents, not only must we attend to our children’s physical needs but also take care of their spiritual needs. We must ask Allah to keep our children on the right path and make them coolness of our hearts. You can recite this dua from Quran:

      رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَٰجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّـٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍۢ وَٱجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا
Rabbana hab lanā min azwājina wa dhurriyyātinā qurrata a'yunin wa aj'alnā lil-muttaqīna imāmā.
‘Our Lord! Bless us with (pious) spouses and offspring who will be the joy of our hearts, and make us models for the righteous.’

      (Surah Al-Furqan, verse 74)

While Allah rewards us parents for our sacrifices, he has emphasised the rights of children in a way pleasing to Allah. One of the rights of children is that their parents teach them the way of Islam

      3. Dua for Sick Children

Our beloved Prophet (PBUH) would recite the following dua (supplication) when he would visit a sick person. You can also read this supplication for your sick baby:

      اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، أَذْهِبِ البَأْسَ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، اشْفِ وَأَنْتَ الشَّافِي لاَ شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لاَ يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
Allahumma Rabb an-nās, adhhib al-ba'sa Rabb an-nās, ishf wa anta ash-shāfī, lā shifā'a illā shifā'uka, shifā'an lā yughādiru saqamā.
‘O Allah, Lord of the people, take away the disease. Cure him as You are the One Who cures. There is no cure but Yours, a cure that leaves behind no ailment.’

      (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

      4. Dua for Your Children to be Righteous and Grateful

As parents, one of our biggest wishes is for our children to grow up with good character and a deep sense of gratitude. Imagine a mother who watches her young son as he carefully helps his little sister carry her toys. She smiles, proud of his kindness, but in her heart, she worries. She knows that kindness and good character don’t always come easily. What if he forgets these lessons as he grows up?

That’s where dua, or prayer, becomes so important. Let’s turn to Allah with this heartfelt dua, asking Him to inspire us and our offspring to appreciate His blessings and do good deeds:

Rabb awzi'ni an ashkura ni'mataka allatī an'amta 'alayya wa 'ala wālidayya, wa an a'mala ṣāliḥan tarḍāh, wa aslīḥ lī fī dhurriyyati, innī tubtu ilayka wa innī min al-muslimeen.
‘My Lord! Inspire me to (always) be thankful for Your favours which You blessed me and my parents with, and to do good deeds that please You. And instil righteousness in my offspring. I truly repent to You, and I truly submit (to Your Will).’

      (Surah Al-Ahqaf, verse 15)

      5. Dua for Our Children to be Obedient to Allah

When Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Ismail (AS) built the Kaaba (Masjid Al-Haram), he prayed for their descendants to stay devoted to Allah. As parents, we can make this same dua, asking Allah to guide our children to love and obey Him:

      رَبَّنَا وَٱجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِنَآ أُمَّةًۭ مُّسْلِمَةًۭ لَّكَ وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
Rabbana waj'alna muslimayni laka wa min dhurriyyatina ummatan muslima laka wa arina manasikana wa tub 'alayna, innaka anta at-tawwab ur-raheem.
‘Our Lord! Make us both (fully) submit to You, and from our descendants a nation that will submit to You. Show us our rituals, and turn to us in grace. You are truly the Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful.’

      (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 128)

      6. Dua for Our Children to Stay Committed to Salah (Prayer)

Praying five times a day is one of the five pillars of Islam. Thus, we should motivate our kids to start praying from a young age and eventually make them understand how important Salah (prayer) is.

Here’s a dua (supplication) we can say for ourselves and our kids to stay committed to their prayers:

      رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْنِى مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِى ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَآءِ
Rabb ij'alni muqīma s-salāh wa min dhurriyyati. Rabbana wa taqabbal du'ā
‘My Lord! Make me and those (believers) of my descendants keep up prayer. Our Lord! Accept my prayers.’

      (Surah Ibrahim, verse 40)

      7. Dua For Children’s Success in Exams

Whether your children are facing any difficulty or you want them to succeed in their exams, you can recite this dua or even you can teach them to recite it.

Allahumma laa sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahlan, wa anta taj-alul hazna iza syi’ta sahla.
‘Oh Allah! Nothing is easy except what you have made easy. If you wish, you can make the difficult easy.’

      (Sahih Ibn Hibban)

Some other Prophetic Ways to Protect Our Children

Inferring from the teachings of our beloved Prophet (PBUH), here are some other ways we can protect our children:

      - Recite the last three chapters of the Quran (Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falak, and Surah An-Nas) over your kids. It was narrated by Aisha (RA) that each night before sleeping, the Prophet (PBUH) would recite these Surahs (chapters), blow into his cupped hands, and then wipe them over his head, face, and body, repeating this three times (Sahih Al-Bukhari, 5017).

      - We all know that Ayatul Kursi (verse of the throne) is known for protecting against evil. Parents should include it in their daily prayers and recite it over their children regularly.

      - Don’t allow your kids to go outdoors when the night falls, as it is when jins (ghosts) and devils are out. The Prophet (PBUH) said,

‘When nightfalls, then keep your children close to you, for the devil spread out then. An hour later you can let them free…’

      (Sahih Al-Bukhari, 3280)

      - Recite Surah Al-Baqarah as it is known to keep the devil away from your home. Keeping satan away is a way to protect your children and other family members. Abu Huraira (RA) reported the Prophet (PBUH) as saying,

‘Do not make your houses as graveyards. Satan runs away from the house in which Surah Baqarah is recited.’

      (Sahih Muslim, 780)

      Conclusion

In the end, one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is our heartfelt dua (supplication). While we do our best to teach, protect, and guide them, there are things only Allah can do. The duas we have shared can help you ask Allah to protect and guide your children in everything they do. May Allah protect our children, fill their hearts with Iman (faith), and guide them on the path of goodness and success.

Also, you can recite this dua recommended by our beloved Prophet (PBUH), أعيذكما بكلمات الله التامة من كل شيطان وهامة ومن كل عين لامة A'idhukuma bi kalimat Allah at-tammah, min kull shaytan wa hāmmāh, wa min kull 'ayn lāmmah.‘I seek protection for you in the Perfect Words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every envious blameworthy eye.’(Al-Bukhari 4/119)
