Allah says:
“Indeed, it is we who sent this Quran down on the Night of Glory.”
(Surah Al Qadr 97:1)
Allah further explains the value of this night by saying:
“The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.”
(Surah Al Qadr 97:3)

The exact date of Laylatul Qadr is unknown. However, the Prophet (PBUH) guided the Ummah on when to seek it.
He said:
“Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan.”
(Sahih al Bukhari 2017)

Allah describes Laylatul Qadr in the Qur’an by saying:
“It is all peace until the break of dawn.”
(Surah Al Qadr 97:5)

The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“Laylatul-Qadr is calm and pleasant, neither hot nor cold, the sun rises on its morning being feeble and red.”
(Ibn Khuzaimah)
This hadith shows that the night is balanced and comfortable. There are no extremes of temperature, and the atmosphere feels gentle. This moderation reflects the mercy and balance that Allah places within this blessed night.
Many Muslims ask whether rain is a sign of Laylatul Qadr, especially when they notice rainfall during the last ten nights of Ramadan.
There is an authentic hadith in which the Prophet (PBUH) said:
“I was shown Laylatul Qadr, then it was made to be forgotten. I saw myself prostrating in water and mud.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 2036)
That particular night, rain fell, and the Prophet (PBUH) prayed while the ground was wet. However, scholars are clear that rain is not a fixed or required sign of Laylatul Qadr. Sometimes it rains on this night, and sometimes it does not. Therefore, rain alone cannot be used as proof that a specific night is Laylatul Qadr.
The clearest and most reliable sign of Laylatul Qadr appears after the night has passed.
The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The sun rises on that day without rays, as if it were a dish, until it rises higher.”
(Sahih Muslim 762)
This means that on the morning following Laylatul Qadr, the sun rises softly without its usual sharp or blinding rays. Its light appears gentle, and it can be looked at briefly without discomfort. Scholars agree that this is the strongest and most authentic sign of Laylatul Qadr.
Many signs circulate online and within communities that have no basis in authentic Islamic sources. These include seeing unusual colours in the sky, hearing special sounds, witnessing supernatural events, or receiving confirmation through dreams.
Islam teaches us to rely on evidence, not personal experiences or assumptions. While dreams can be meaningful, they are not proof that a specific night is Laylatul Qadr.
Rather than chasing signs, the Prophet (PBUH) taught the Ummah to focus on worship and supplication.
It was narrated from Aisha (RA) that she said:
"O Messenger of Allah, what do you think I should say in my supplication, if I come upon Laylatul-Qadr?" He said: "Say: 'Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni (O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me).'"
