The last ten days of Ramadan are the most sacred days of the month, as among them lies Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power), which is better than a thousand months (Quran 97:3). These special days are a golden opportunity to seek Allah’s mercy, forgiveness, and blessings before Ramadan comes to an end.

To make the most of these nights, Muslims worldwide dedicate themselves to prayer, recitation of the Quran, and heartfelt supplications (duas). As the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“Dua is the essence of Worship.”

      (Tirmidhi 3371)

When made with sincerity and firm faith in Allah’s acceptance, dua in the last ten nights of Ramadan can bring exceptional rewards.

Best Duas You Can say during the 3rd Ashra of Ramadan

      As Aisha (RA) reported:

"With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet (PBUH) used to tighten his waist belt (work harder in worship), pray all night, and keep his family awake for prayers."

      (Al-Bukhari)

Following this beautiful example, here are some of the most beneficial duas to recite during these sacred nights.

      1. Dua for the Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr)

The following dua was taught by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to his wife Aisha (RA) when she asked what to say on Laylatul Qadr. Reciting this dua sincerely can help believers seek Allah's forgiveness during these blessed nights.

Allahumma innaka Afuwwun (Karimun) tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee
“O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, (Generous) You love to pardon, so pardon me.”

      (Sunan Ibn Majah 3850)

      2. Dua for Parents

Your parents are the most important and special people in your life, and you owe them everything. During these blessed last ten days of Ramadan, dedicate your prayers to them. Recite the following dua to ask Allah to bless those who raised you with love and care:

      رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
      Rabbi irhamhuma kama rabbayani sagheera
“My Lord, have mercy upon them (parents) as they brought me up [when I was] small.”

      (Surah Al-Isra, verse 24)

      3. Dua for Guidance

During Ramadan, Allah draws closer to His worshippers and graciously accepts their duas as a reward for their devotion and efforts toward Him. Hence, there's no better time to seek guidance than this blessed month.

Abdullah Bin Masud reported that the Prophet (PBUH) used to recite the following dua:

‏اللهم إني أسألك الهدى والتقى والعفاف والغنى‏
      Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat- tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina
“O Allah! I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity and self-sufficiency.”

      (Riyad As-Salihin 71)

      4. Dua for Seeking Allah’s Pleasure and Paradise

This powerful dua captures a believer’s deepest wish - to earn Allah’s pleasure, enter Jannah, and be protected from His wrath and Hellfire.

Allaahumma innee as-aluka ridaaka wal Jannah wa a’audhu’bika min sakhatika wan-naar
O Allah, I ask of Your pleasure and for Paradise, and I seek refuge from Your displeasure and the Hellfire.

(taken from the Fatawaa of Shaykh Ibn Baz)

      5. Dua for the Loved Ones Who Passed Away

Umm Salama (RA) reported that when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) visited Abu Salama (RA) after his passing, he noticed that his eyes remained open and gently closed them, explaining that the eyes follow the departing soul.

As some family members began to weep and wail, he advised them to supplicate only for good, as the angels say 'Ameen' to their prayers. He then recited a beautiful dua for the deceased:

      اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ ، وَارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ فِي الْمَهْدِيِّينَ ، وَاخْلُفْهُ فِي عَقِبِهِ فِي الْغَابِرِينَ ، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ ، وَافْسَحْ لَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ ، وَنَوِّرْ لَهُ فِيهِ
Allāhumma-ghfir lah, wa-rfaʿ darajatahū fi-l-mahdiyyīn, wa-khlufhu fi ʿaqibihi fi-l-ghābirīn, wa-ghfir lanā wa lahū yā Rabba-l-ʿālamīn, wa-fsaḥ lahū fi qabrih, wa nawwir lahū fīh.
“O Allah, forgive him, raise his rank among those who are guided, and take care of those he leaves behind him. Forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds; expand his grave for him and illuminate it for him.”

      (Sahih Muslim 920a)

      6. Dua for Forgiveness of Sins

Did you know that the Prophet (PBUH) used to recite this dua a hundred times in one sitting? You, too, can seek forgiveness for your sins during Ramadan by reciting this dua, as it is the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (PBUH):

      رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي، وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ
Rabbighfir li wa tub 'alayya innaka Anta At-Tawwabur-Raheem
“My Lord! Forgive me and pardon me. Indeed, You are the Oft-Returning with compassion and Ever Merciful.”

      (Riyad as-Salihin 1872)

      7. Dua for Good Health

Good health is one of the greatest blessings a person can have, yet it is often taken for granted. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) set an example by regularly seeking Allah’s protection for his body, hearing, and eyesight.

According to a narration, Abdur Rahman ibn Abu Bakrah (RA) once mentioned that he often heard his father supplicating with a particular dua every morning. When he inquired about it, his father explained that he was following the practice of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), who would frequently recite this supplication.

      The dua goes as follows:

      اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَدَنِي اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي سَمْعِي اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَصَرِي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ
Allahumma ‘aafini fi badani, Allahumma ‘aafini fi sam‘i, Allahumma ‘aafini fi basari, la ilaha illa Anta
"O Allah! Grant me health in my body. O Allah! Grant me good hearing. O Allah! Grant me good eyesight. There is no god but Thou." You repeat them three times in the morning and three times in the evening.”

      (Sunan Abi Dawud 5090)

Don’t Just Stick to These Recommended Duas - Practice These Sunnahs too!

While making duas is an essential part of Ramadan, true spiritual growth comes from combining supplication with action. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) not only taught us beautiful duas, but also demonstrated through his life how to maximise the blessings of this sacred month.

Along with these duas, here are some Sunnah acts you can include in your Ramadan routine:

      a. Practise I’tikaf: It is one of the most rewarding Sunnahs of Ramadan, especially in the last ten nights. The Prophet (PBUH) used to seclude himself in the masjid, dedicating his time to worship, recitation of the Quran, and seeking Laylatul Qadr. Aisha (RA) narrated:

“Allah's Messenger (PBUH) used to practice I’tikaf in the last ten nights of Ramadan and used to say, Look for the Night of Qadr in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadan.”

      (Sahih al-Bukhari 2020)

Even if full I’tikaf is not possible, setting aside personal time for reflection, dhikr, and extra prayers can bring immense spiritual benefits.

      b. Give Charity (Sadaqah and Zakat): Ramadan is the month of generosity, and giving charity is one of the most beloved deeds to Allah. Once Anas (RA) asked the Prophet (PBUH), “Which charity is the best?” He responded,

“The best charity is that given in Ramadan.”

      (Tirmidhi 663)

Whether it's providing iftar meals, donating to a cause, or helping a struggling family, every act of charity in Ramadan is multiplied in reward.

      c. Increase in Ibadah (Acts of Worship): Ramadan is not just about fasting but about increasing in all forms of ibadah. Performing extra prayers (Taraweeh and Qiyam-ul-Layl), reciting the Quran, and making constant dhikr are all ways to maximise the blessings of this sacred month.

      d. Indulge in Small Acts of Kindness: Islam emphasises that kindness is an act of worship. During Ramadan, simple gestures like sharing food, helping a neighbour, giving gifts, or even offering a smile can be a source of immense reward.

      The Prophet (PBUH) said,

“Exchange presents with one another, for they remove ill feelings from the hearts.”

      (Tirmidhi 2130)
