The last ten days of Ramadan are the most powerful and spiritually uplifting days of the entire month. Here’s why:
One of the biggest reasons these days are important is Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Power). This is the most blessed night of the year, and it occurs on the odd nights of these last ten days of Ramadan (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th). No one knows the exact date as it might vary from year to year. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said:
"Seek Laylat al Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 2017)
So it is best to worship on every odd night of the last Ashra to increase your chance of getting the reward of a thousand months.
The night of Laylat al-Qadr is the best chance to seek mercy and forgiveness of all your past sins from Allah (SWT). The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 2014)
So, this night is a golden opportunity to wipe away your past mistakes and sins. Seek repentance through dua and start fresh.
In the last ten days, the Prophet (PBUH) practised I’tikaf, meaning he would stay in the mosque for worship, completely focusing on his connection with Allah (SWT). Aisha (RA) reported:
"The Prophet (PBUH) used to practice I‘tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan until he passed away. Then his wives continued to observe I‘tikaf after him."
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 2026)
Many Muslims follow this Sunnah today and go for I'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan to strengthen their relationship with Allah (SWT) and seek forgiveness. Those who can’t stay in the mosque can do a personal retreat at home by limiting distractions and increasing their prayers.

Night prayers like Tahajjud and Qiyam-ul-Layl are powerful ways to connect with Allah. Try to increase the number of rak’ahs you pray at night. Start praying Taraweeh prayers in the mosque, as prayers in congregation are multiplied your reward by twenty-seven times (Sahih al-Bukhari 645).
Also, consider adding extra voluntary prayers before Fajr. Even if you can’t pray much or face difficulty going to the mosque, try to improve your quality of prayer. Start praying sincerely and passionately, focusing on your connection with Allah (SWT).

The last Ashra of Ramadan is an ideal opportunity to make as many duas to Allah (SWT) about anything we want in life, whether it is for personal needs, the forgiveness of sins, better health, success in business, etc. The best dua to make during this time, as recommended by the Prophet (PBUH) to Aisha (RA), is:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
"Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni"
O Allah, You are forgiving, and You love forgiveness, so forgive me
(Tirmidhi, 3513)
However, there are other duas you can do as well. Make a list of all the things you want to ask Allah (SWT). Also, don’t forget to make dua for your family, friends, and Muslim Ummah. These days are a powerful opportunity to have your duas accepted, so make them sincerely and consistently.
One way to make your duas more effective is to call upon Allah (SWT) using his beautiful names and attributes. When asking for forgiveness, call upon Al-Ghaffar (The Forgiving). When asking for sustenance, call upon Ar-Razzaq (The Provider). Personalise your duas and pour your heart out to Allah (SWT).

The Prophet (PBUH) was the most generous during Ramadan, and he highly recommended giving charity (sadaqah) during this holy month. He said:
“The best charity is that given in Ramadan.”
(Sunan al-Tirmidhi, 663)
Therefore giving charity during the last ten days is a highly commendable act in the eyes of Allah (SWT). Even if you can’t give a large amount, consistency matters. Try to donate a small amount daily on these ten days, as you never know which night is Laylat al-Qadr.
Ways to give to charity include:
a) Providing food for fasting people (you will earn the reward of their fast)
b) Helping someone in financial need
c) Donating to build mosques, water wells, or orphanages
d) Sponsoring an orphan or supporting widows
If you can’t give financially, charity can also be in kind words, helping others, and spreading goodness.
Ramadan is the month when the Quran was revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as mentioned in the verse:
"The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion."
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185)
During these last ten days, try to increase your recitation and understanding of the Quran. Reflect on its words and understand their meaning to get closer to Allah (SWT). If you haven’t finished reading the Quran, set a goal to complete it. Even if you can’t finish it all, aim to read at least a few pages daily.
Try reading with translation and Tafsir to better understand the message. Consider how the verses apply to your life and how you can implement them. The Quran is a guide, and these days are the best time to strengthen your relationship with it.
These last ten nights are the best time to turn back to Allah (SWT) and seek forgiveness. No matter how many sins you’ve committed, Allah’s (SWT) mercy is greater. Sincerely repent by:
a) Regretting your past mistakes
b) Asking for forgiveness sincerely
c) Making a firm intention not to return to those sins
The Prophet (PBUH) said:
"The one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin."
(Sunan Ibn Majah, 4250)
