Many Muslims perform Umrah every year, a sacred journey that holds great significance in Islam. Whoever performs Umrah and prays sincerely to Allah will have their prayers accepted. Abu Hurairah reported the Prophet (PBUH) as saying,

‘Those who perform the Hajj and those who perform the Umrah are people who have come to visit God. If they supplicate Him He will respond to them, and if they ask Him for forgiveness, He will forgive them.’

      (Mishkat al-Masabih 2536)

Therefore, reciting duas (supplications) is one of the best practices during Umrah. This article shares a list of duas for Umrah, taken from the Quran and Sunnah, to make your Umrah experience more meaningful.

      The Virtue of Umrah

Umrah is a sacred journey to the holy city of Makkah, where Muslims perform special acts of worship. It involves entering a state of Ihram, performing Tawaf (circling the Kaaba) and Sa’ee (walking between the hills of Safa and Marwah), and completing it with specific prayers.

While it is not obligatory like the Hajj, Umrah is highly recommended and is a way to seek Allah’s blessings. Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said,

‘(The performance of) Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allah) is nothing except Paradise.’

      (Sahih Al-Bukhari 1773)

This means that every time you perform Umrah, it cleanses your past sins and allows you to seek Allah’s mercy. It strengthens your faith and fills your heart with peace as you stand before the Kaaba, making heartfelt duas.

Before you look at these duas, remember to check this guide on how to perform Umrah to understand when and how to recite them during Umrah.

10 Duas to Recite When Doing Umrah

Below is the list of ten duas you can recite while performing Umrah:

      1. Dua before Starting the Journey

Before beginning your Umrah journey, it is important to seek Allah’s guidance, protection, and blessings. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) recommended reciting the following dua:

بسم الله توكلت على الله، ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله
Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah
‘I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no altering of conditions but by the Power of Allah.’

      (Riyad as-Salihin 83)

According to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), whoever recites this dua, will be guided, defended, and protected, and the devil will stay far away from him. This assurance fills the heart with peace and confidence, knowing Allah’s care is with you throughout the journey.

      2. Dua for Making Intention (Niyyah) for Umrah

After you enter the state of Ihram, make your intention for Umrah by saying the following dua:

      اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أُرِيْدُ الْعُمْرَةَ فَيَسِّرْهَا لِيْ وَتَقَبَّلْهَا مِنِّيْ
Allahumma innee uridul umrah; fayassir haa li wa taqabbalahaa minnee.
‘O Allah! I intend to perform Umrah. Make it easy for me and accept it in Your books.’

      (Sahih Bukhari)

By asking Allah to make the journey easy, you show that you trust Him to guide and help you at every step. When you ask Allah to accept your efforts, it shows your hope that all the good things you do (big or small) are counted as rewards in your record of deeds.

      3. Talbiyah for Umrah

It is the Sunnah to recite the Talbiyah as much as possible during Umrah or Hajj. Men should say it out loud, while women should recite it softly so that non-Mahram men (men who are not close family) cannot hear them.

Abdullah ibn Umar (RA) said that the Talbiyah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was this:

      لَبَّيْكَ اللهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ, لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيْكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ , إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ , لَا شَرِيْكَ لَكَ
Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk. Labbayka La Sharika Laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda Wan-ni’mata laka Wal-mulk. La Sharika Lak
‘Here I am at your service, O Allah, Here I am at Your service. Here I am at Your service, You have no partner, here I am at Your service. Truly all praise and blessings belong to You, and so does sovereignty. You have no partner.’

      (Sahih Muslim 1184a)

      5. Dua upon Entering Masjid Al-Haram

When you enter Masjid Al-Haram, step in with your right foot first and recite the following dua,

Bismillahi wal hamdulillahi wassalatu a’laa Rasulillah, Allahummaghfirlee zunoobee waf tahlee abwaaba rahmatik.
'I begin in the name of Allah, all praise be to Him, and Blessings be upon the Prophet of Allah; O Allah, forgive my sins and open for me the gates of Your mercy.’

      (Tirmidhi)

This dua reminds you to thank Allah for allowing you to visit this holy place and to seek His forgiveness and mercy. Entering Masjid Al-Haram is a special moment because you are about to perform acts of worship in one of the most sacred places on Earth.

      6. Dua during Tawaf

Tawaf means walking around the Kaaba in an anti-clockwise direction. It includes seven full rounds, starting and ending each time at the Hajar al-Aswad (the Black Stone). When you face the Black Stone to start your Tawaf, you can say Takbir to make your intention:

بسم الله الله أكبر ولله الحمد
Bismillahi Allahu Akbar wa lillahil hamd
‘I start in the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and all praise belongs to Him.’

      (Sahih Al-Bukhari 1613)

      7. Dua to Recite Between Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone

As you perform Tawaf, remember the words and actions of the Prophet (PBUH). When he passed between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, he would recite this beautiful dua:

      رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِيْ الدُنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَّفِيْ الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَّقِنَا عَذَابَ النَار
Rabbanaa aatinaa fiddunya hasanah wa fil akhirati hasanah wa qinaa aza’ab annaar.
‘O Allah, bring us a blessing in this world and a blessing in the next and guard us from the punishment of Hell.’

      (Sunan Abi Dawud 1892)

By reciting this dua, you seek both the blessings of this world and the Hereafter. You are asking Allah for protection from harm and punishment, showing your trust in His mercy and greatness.

After completing seven rounds of Tawaf, pray two Rak’ahs (units of prayer) with the Maqam Ibrahim (the Station of Ibrahim) between you and the Kaaba. Then, drink Zamzam water.

When drinking Zamzam water, you can make a dua asking Allah for the best in this life and the Hereafter. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

‘Zamzam water is for whatever intention it is drunk for.’

      (Sunan Ibn Majah 3062)

You can recite the following dua while drinking Zamzam:

      اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمَاً نَافِعَاًً وَرِزْقَاً وَاسِعَاًَ وَشِفَاءً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ
      Allahumma innee as’aluka ilman na’fiaa, wa rizqa’w wa-si’aa, wa shifa’an min kulli da’aa
‘O Allah, I seek beneficial knowledge, wide sustenance and cure from all ailments from You.’

      (Hisnul Hasin)

This dua is a beautiful way to seek Allah's help in various aspects of your life. You are asking for beneficial knowledge that will guide you towards success, ample provisions that will sustain you, and healing from any sickness or ailment.

      9. Dua during Sa’ee

Sa’ee is an important part of Umrah, where you walk seven times between the two hills, Safa and Marwah. When you climb the Safa hill for the first time, you can recite this verse from the Quran following the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH):

Innassafaa wal marwata min sha’airillah, faman hajj al baeeta awi’tamara falaa junaaha a’laihi aiyattawwafa bihi maa, wa man tatawwa’a khairan fa innAllaha shaakirun a’leem
‘Indeed, (the hills of) Ṣafa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever makes the major or minor pilgrimage to the (Sacred) House, let them walk between (the two hills). And whoever does good willingly, Allah is truly Appreciative, All-Knowing.’

      (Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 158)

After reciting the above verse, the Prophet (PBUH) would say:

‘I begin with that with which Allah began.’

      (Sahih Muslim 1218a)

      10. Dua to Recite at the Tops of Safa and Marwah

Whenever the Prophet (PBUH) approached mount Safa or Marwah, he would recite the following dua:

Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La illaha illAllahu wahdahu la shareekalahu, lahul mul ku wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa ‘ala kulli shai’in qadeer. Laa ilaha illAllahu wahdahu anjaza wa’dahu, wa nasara ‘abdahu wa hadhamal ahzaaba wahdahu
‘Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. There is none truly worthy of worship except Allah alone, without a partner. To Him belongs all sovereignty and all praise. He alone gives life and causes death, and He is All-Powerful over everything. There is none truly worthy of worship except Allah alone, without a partner. He has fulfilled His promise and helped His servant, and He alone has defeated the confederates.’

      (Hisn al-Muslim 236)

This dua is a powerful affirmation of Tawheed (the oneness of Allah), praising Him for His absolute control over all things. As you stand at the top of Safa or Marwah, reciting this dua reminds you of Allah’s majesty and power. It is also a way to acknowledge that all good, victory, and success come from Him alone.
