Did you know the Quran predicted modern science? In this blog, you will discover seven astonishing scientific miracles hidden in the Quran.

      The Quran: A Miraculous Book

The Quran was revealed to the Prophet (PBUH) over 1400 years ago. We believe that it is the literal word of Allah Almighty. It stands as a miraculous book because of its divine origin and unmatchable depth.

Besides spiritual and moral teachings, the Quran contains many statements about the physical world and natural phenomena. These statements are far ahead of their time. They have only been confirmed by modern science many centuries later.

The scientific miracles in the Quran are proof of its being a book from Allah Almighty, not a 7th century Arab. It is stated in the Quran:

"Then do they not reflect upon the Quran? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction."

      (Surah An-Nisa, Verse 82)

Miracle 1: The Quran and The Universe

The Quran presents the description of the universe in a remarkable way and it resonates with modern scientific discoveries. One of the most profound verses in the Quran says,

“Did the unbelievers (who do not accept the teaching of the Prophet) not realise that the Heavens and the Earth were one solid mass, then We tore them apart, and We made every living being out of water? Will they, then, not believe (that We created all this)?”

      (Surah Al-Anbya, Verse 30)

      A Galaxy (Universe)

This verse aligns closely with the Big Bang theory, which states that the world originated from a singular point before expanding into its current form. Also, the Quran reveals the universe as a whole. It teaches that the universe is one interconnected system.

Another beauty of Allah’s creation of the universe is its specific order. Every galaxy has its own system and each planet is revolving in its own pre-defined orbit. Mars can’t switch places with Earth and Venus can’t swap spots with Jupiter.

Even a tiny change can cause a huge catastrophe in space. In the Quran, it is stated,

“And He is the One Who created the day and the night, the sun and the moon—each travelling in an orbit.”

      (Surah Al-Anbya, Verse 33)

Miracle 2: The Human Body: A Masterpiece

The second remarkable miracle in the Quran is the way human creation and development are described in detail, far ahead of its time. These descriptions align with the scientific findings in embryology and biology.

The Quran presents the stages of human development in these words:

“We created man out of the extract of clay, then We made him into a drop of life-germ, then We placed it in a safe depository, then We made this drop into a clot, then We made the clot into a lump, then We made the lump into bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh, and then We caused it to grow into another creation. Thus, Most Blessed is Allah, the Best of all those that create.”

      (Surah Al-Mu’minun, Verses 12-14)

These verses perfectly define the stages of droplets, clot, and lump. Science was not familiar with this fact until the 20th century.

      Miracle 3: Iron from Space

Modern science discovered that iron found on Earth was formed in exploding stars and then delivered to our planet. Iron is also a key component of haemoglobin (blood cells) which carries oxygen in the blood.

The Department of Energy (United States) claims that even the iron in your blood can be traced back to supernovae or similar cosmic explosions from long before our Sun had formed.

The Quran has already indicated that iron originated from space. It is mentioned in Surah 57:

"And We sent down iron with its great might, benefits for humanity..."

      (Surah Al-Hadid, verse 25)

Miracle 4: Flight of the Birds

Another wonder is the flight of the birds. When the scientists researched the birds and their flight, they discovered the migratory program embedded in their genetic code. Also, the birds use principles of lift and thrust to soar through the air.

The birds flying in the sky

The Quran's mention of birds and flight is a reminder of the wonders of creation. The Quran describes birds and their ability to fly in Surah 67:

“Do they not see the birds above them, spreading their wings and folding them in? None holds them up except the Most Merciful…”

      (Surah Al-Mulk, verse 19)

Miracle 5: The Mountains as Earth Stabilizers

Beautiful view of mountains at sunrise.

Modern geology has confirmed that mountains have deep roots that extend into the Earth's crust, much like pegs or stakes. They act as anchors and help prevent earthquakes.

The Quran also mentions the mountains and their role in stabilising the Earth. It is stated:

“Have We not made the Earth a resting place? And the mountains as stakes?"

      (Surah An-Naba, verses 6 & 7)

Miracle 6: Fresh Meets Salt: A Natural Barrier

Scientists have discovered that each sea has its own temperature, density, and saltiness. When two seas come together, they create a mixing zone where the waters blend but still maintain some of their differences.

This idea is reflected in the Quran in these words:

"He merged the two bodies of (fresh and salt) water. Yet between them is a barrier they never cross.”

      (Surah Ar-Rahman, verse 19)

The word ‘Barzakh’ means a barrier, while ‘Marj’ refers to where two seas meet. This barrier stops the waters from mixing completely and keeps their unique qualities intact.

Miracle 7: Mathematical Precision in the Quran

The Quran contains many examples of mathematical patterns and numerical codes that have amazed scholars and scientists. Some of them are given here:

One of the most famous examples is code 19. It is mentioned in the 74th Surah of the Quran,

      "Over it is nineteen [angels]."

      (Surah Al-Muddaththir, verse 30)

In 1974, Rashad Khalifa, an Egyptian American biochemist, noticed something special about the number 19 in the Quran. This number appears often in the Quran, especially in Surah 74. Interestingly, if you add 19 and 74, you get 1974, the year this discovery was made.

This is even more amazing when you look at the Islamic calendar. If you count the years since  the Quran was first revealed, it's 1406 years, which is 19 multiplied by 74.

Other numerical patterns include the equal mention of opposites, such as:

      - The word ‘Dunya’ (world) is mentioned 115 times, and the word ‘Akhira’ (hereafter) is also mentioned 115 times.

      - The word ‘Mala’ika’ (angels) is mentioned 88 times, and the word ‘Shayatin’ (devils) is mentioned 88 times.

Moreover, in the Qur'an, the word ‘Al Qamar’ (moon) appears 27 times. This is the time period in which the moon completes its orbit around the earth. We know the lunar month has 29 days.

The main reason behind this difference is that when the moon revolves around the Earth, the Earth also revolves around the sun. Due to which the moon completes its rotation around the Earth after two days' delay.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      • Q1. What is the biggest miracle in the Quran?

The biggest miracle of the Quran is its own inimitability. No change has been made to this and no one can imitate it, affirming the Quran's divine origin. As it is stated in the Quran, "Indeed, it is We who sent down the Quran, and indeed, We will be its guardian" (Surah Al-Hijr, verse 9)

      • Q2. Is the Quran scientifically correct?

Yes, the sacred book is scientifically correct. It has already predicted scientific facts over 1400 years ago. In fact, the scientific discoveries are described in Surahs.

      • Q3. Is black hole mentioned in the Quran?

Some scholars suggest that the Quran contains references that can be interpreted as descriptions of black holes. In Surah 81, it is mentioned: "When the sun is put out, and when the stars fall down (inkadarat)." (Surah Al-Takwir, verses 1-2)

      • Q4. How many scientific verses are in the Quran?

There is no definitive count of the number of scientific verses in the Quran, as many verses can be interpreted to contain scientific information. Nevertheless, some of them are discussed in this blog.

      • Q5. Has the Quran ever changed?

The Quran has been translated into numerous languages and each translation is taken as its own interpretation of the original Arabic text. However, the Quran is the word of Allah Almighty and is therefore unchangeable.
