How long has it been since you treated yourself like a queen? Since you truly took time to care for yourself? While carrying many responsibilities—whether it’s your kids, husbands, jobs, or even your school—It’s easy to forget that self-care is essential.
As Muslim women, we often put our own needs aside while balancing the different roles we play in life. Even though Allah has blessed us with empathy, we often forget to show that same kindness to ourselves. That’s why we’re here to take you on a journey of self-care through our practical and easy-to-follow tips to help you reconnect with yourself.
You might struggle with the idea of self-care because we’re taught to practise beautiful Islamic values like selflessness, sacrifice, and charity. However, Islam never stops us from taking care of ourselves or prioritising our needs. Where Islam teaches us to be good to others, it also motivates us to be kind to ourselves.
Our beloved Prophet (PBUH) said,
“Verily, your own self has rights over you, so fast and break your fast, pray and sleep.”
(Sunan Abi Dawud)
You can infer from this Hadith how important it is to take good care of your body, mind, and soul. We always strive to achieve something or meet excessive expectations in our lives. In the process, we neglect ourselves and end up feeling discontent. This is why you should take some time to relax and recharge yourself.
Before you dive into these incredible self-care tips, you need to practise one thing: tuning into yourself, your thoughts, and your feelings. If you neglect your feelings and the signs your tired body gives, there's a chance you won’t be able to perform your daily tasks properly.
Sit down and ask yourself: how are you feeling? What is your body and mind telling you? How is your heart with Allah? Are negative thoughts crowding your mind? Why are you feeling down at a specific moment? Once you learn to realise how you’re feeling, you tend to act better in any situation.
Now that you know how to check in with yourself, let’s unfold amazing self-care tips every Muslim woman should follow:
Sometimes, we say or do things we wish we hadn’t, and then spend the rest of the day whipping ourselves over it. But it’s important to show yourself some compassion. We’re human, we all make mistakes and it’s okay to forgive yourself once in a while.
Remember, self-love isn’t selfish. It’s about treating yourself with kindness and understanding, just as you would treat others. Valuing yourself is an essential part of this process.
Here are some simple ways you can practise self-love:
Practise positive affirmations to change the way you think of yourself in a positive way. Some people read them in their minds or speak them out loud. Some of the examples are:
1. “I love the way I am uniquely created by Allah.”
2. “I am exactly where I’m supposed to be in Allah’s plan.”
3. “I am content with whatever He has bestowed upon me.”
Mistakes are a part of being human. As long as you are mindful of your actions and words, it’s okay to forgive yourself and not be too harsh. Compassion starts with how you treat yourself.
Whether it’s cooking your favourite meal just for you, reading a book you enjoy, or creating art, take time to do something that brings you joy. Doing what you love is a great way to reconnect with yourself.
Always remember, Allah created you with incredible care and purpose. He has filled you with limitless potential, so don't fall into ingratitude and be kind to yourself.
Another simple way to treat yourself better is to look after your skin. It is because feeling good in your skin can make a big difference in how you feel overall.
Taking care of your skin isn’t just about looking good; it’s about feeling confident and empowered. In fact, studies have shown that women who follow a regular skincare routine often feel happier, more confident, and even more in control of their lives.
So, why not give yourself that boost of self-love? Shop from our carefully curated collection of organic skincare and beauty products. I guarantee you that your skin and your mood will thank you!
Here are the ways you can take good care of your health:
Whether you’re a Muslim mother, a working lady, or both, taking care of your diet is a must. In the hustle and bustle of daily routine, we often skip meals and compromise our health in exchange for other responsibilities. You would be surprised to know how seriously it can impact your health. You might notice fatigue, digestive problems, mood swings, or even issues with your skin and hair.
Our Prophet (PBUH) said,
“There are two gifts of which many men are unmindful about, good health and leisure.”
(Bukhari)
We should be mindful of our health as it is one of the blessings from Allah Almighty. We often take our health for granted and once we lose it, we lose everything: our healthy body, our dreams, and even the little daily activities we enjoy doing.
So, if you don’t want to lose your energy and your health, take care of yourself before it’s too late! One way to keep your body healthy is by eating Sunnah foods such as organic honey, dates, milk, black seed oil etc. We offer a range of Sunnah halal products at Riwaya. Exercise is very important for keeping your body and mind active. Regular exercise makes your body strong, helps you feel less stressed, and keeps you healthy. Even a short walk or simple stretches can boost your energy level.
The following Hadith reminds us that staying active by walking or doing sports is encouraged in Islam,
“Any action without the remembrance of Allah is either a diversion or heedlessness except four acts: walking from target to target (during archery practice), training a horse, . . . , and learning to swim.”
(At-Tabarani)
Getting enough rest is super important for your health. Good sleep helps you feel better, reduces stress, and prepares you for a busy day. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) suggested taking a short nap during the day. It was narrated from Anas that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
“If any of you feels drowsy during his Salah, let him go and take a nap.”
(Sunan An-Nasa’i, 443)
This short nap, called qailulah, helps you feel more awake. So, you should get plenty of sleep at night. Also, consider taking a little nap during the day when you feel tired.
As very sensitive beings, we women often feel shattered when life gets tough. For example, as a mother, there are times when the constant household chores or the endless care for your children can feel overwhelming. If you’ve just gotten married, adjusting to a new family while leaving the comfort of your own home can be hard.
Likewise, as a working woman, the burden of balancing your career with societal responsibilities may leave you feeling depressed.
The best way to tackle such emotions is to talk to the One who created you, who loves you more than even your own mother: Allah Almighty! He understands our conditions and circumstances more than ourselves. This verse from the Quran is enough to bring us peace:
“Indeed, (it is) We (Who) created humankind and (fully) know what their souls whisper to them, and We are closer to them than (their) jugular vein.”
(Surah Qaf, verse 16)
In addition, you should make the Islamic practices part of your daily routine and witness the positive changes happening!
In the Quran, Allah directly talks to His people and you would find peace in reading it. Be sure to pray five times a day! Each prayer is a wonderful opportunity to connect with Allah, reflect on your day, and let go of any stress or worries you might be carrying. It has many spiritual and practical benefits beyond just being a ritual.
And if you can, try adding Tahajjud (optional night prayer) to your routine. It’s a beautiful way to start your day feeling refreshed and spiritually grounded. Trust me, you’ll feel more balanced and content throughout the day.

The Prophet (PBUH) would often retreat to the cave of Hira for solitude and meditation, and it was during one of these moments when he received the first revelation from Allah. Just as he found peace in solitude, we too can discover fulfilment through meditation.
It is a powerful way to nurture your spiritual and mental well-being. We can practise meditation through dua and dhikr (remembrance of Allah). It helps you connect with Allah at a deeper level. If you’re facing hard times, read these duas to help you stay patient during difficult moments!
As the Quran beautifully states,
“Surely in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find comfort.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d, verse 28)
To make meditation a part of your routine, try setting aside a few minutes each day to focus on your breathing, reflect on your blessings, or recite verses from the Quran. It doesn’t have to be long—just a few moments of quiet can bring a sense of peace.
As Muslims, we believe that life is full of tests. Although you don’t get to choose your tests, you do get to pick your response. Everyone is going through something harsh in their lives, some are suffering less, while others are suffering more than us.
When facing hard times, we forget the blessings Allah has already bestowed us with. So, we should be grateful for what we have rather than complaining about what we don’t.
Allah says in the Quran,
“And He has granted you all that you asked Him for. If you tried to count Allah’s blessings, you would never be able to number them. Indeed humankind is truly unfair, (totally) ungrateful.”
(Surah Ibrahim, verse 34)
One way to practise gratitude is to start a journal. You should start listing your blessings. Each day, write down three things you’re grateful for. Reflect on how these blessings impact your life and your relationship with Allah.
Overall, incorporating self-care into your daily routine can truly make a difference in how you feel both inside and out. By following these simple, faith-centred tips, you’ll not only nurture your mind, body, and soul but also deepen your connection with Allah. You deserve the same kindness and attention you give to others, so start treating yourself with care today!
