Prophet Hud (AS) is one of the 25 prophets mentioned in the Quran who was sent by Allah (SWT) to the people of ‘Ad to spread his message of Tawheed (oneness of Allah). The people of ‘Ad lived in the area between modern day Yemen and Oman. They were known for their arrogance and refused to accept the existence of Allah (SWT) and instead worshipped idols.
Allah (SWT) sent the prophet Hud (AS) to set them on the right path. Like every other prophet, he faced rejection, threats, and persecution for a long time. His story offers us many valuable lessons that we can apply in our daily lives and understand what Allah (SWT) demands from us.
Here are five important lessons to understand from the life of Prophet Hud (AS):
The people of Ad worshipped stone idols and rejected the prophet Hud (AS) 's repeated warnings to come on the path of righteousness and abandon idol worship. However, they didn’t even budge a little bit, taunting Hud (AS) and making fun of him in return.
And to the people of ’Âd We sent their brother Hûd. He said, “O my people! Worship Allah. You have no god other than Him. You do nothing but fabricate lies ˹against Allah
(Surah Hud 11:50)
Eventually, they were destroyed by a strong storm along with their idols. This message is a powerful reminder to avoid shirk (associating partners with Allah), worship Allah (SWT) alone, and follow his teachings as given in the Quran and hadiths. Only through his blessing and guidance can we succeed in this world and the next (hereafter).

The people of ‘Ad were blessed with many things. They were physically strong, wealthy, and lived a prosperous life. Despite all these blessings, they turned away from Allah (SWT) and became arrogant. They believed that whatever they had achieved was due to their hard work and Allah (SWT) had nothing to do with it.
As for ‘Ad, they were arrogant upon the earth without right and said, ‘Who is greater than us in strength?’ Did they not consider that Allah who created them was greater than them in strength? But they were rejecting Our signs.
(Surah Fussilat 41:15)
Allah (SWT) tested them by sending the Prophet Hud (AS) to call them back to worship the one true God and remind them of the consequences of their arrogance and disobedience. However, only a few of them came back; the majority remained arrogant, and they ultimately faced Allah's (SWT) wrath, which destroyed their wealth and everything they had built.
This is an important lesson to follow today. No matter how much success we achieve in our lives, we should always be thankful to Allah (SWT) and not become arrogant. He is the one who provides us with everything, and he has the power to take it away.
Like every other prophet, Hud (AS) faced harsh rejection and mockery from his people. They even went as far as to accuse him of being under a spell. Despite their hostility, Hud (AS) remained patient and continued to invite them to Allah's (SWT) path. This steadfastness in the face of adversity is a powerful lesson for all believers.
He (Hud) said, ‘I call Allah to witness, and you witness yourselves, that I am free from whatever you associate with Allah.’
(Surah Hud 11:54)
Hud’s (AS) unwavering dedication teaches us to remain committed to our values. Even when others mock or oppose us or we face difficult and distressing situations like getting sick or suffering a loss in business, we must always be patient and trust Allah's (SWT) plan. The best thing to do during difficult times is constant dhikr (reciting short duas) and asking for Allah's (SWT) blessings.

Allah (SWT) sent multiple warnings in the shape of natural calamities like drought to the people of ‘Ad to turn away from idol-worshipping and abandon their sinful practices. These hardships were meant to remind them of Allah's (SWT) power and encourage them to repent and return to the worship of Allah (SWT) alone.
Prophet Hud (AS) reminded them of Allah's (SWT) blessings and warned them against their ungratefulness:
"He has provided you with livestock and children. And gardens and springs. Indeed, I fear for you the torment of a tremendous Day."
(Surah Ash-Shu‘ara 42:133–135)
However, instead of reflecting on these signs, the people of ‘Ad remained arrogant and dismissed these warnings. They continued mocking Hud (AS) like before. Ultimately, Allah (SWT) sent the final punishment in the form of a storm that destroyed them completely, and not a single non-believer was left alive.
"So when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, ‘This is a cloud bringing us rain!’ Rather, it is that for which you were impatient: a wind, within it a painful punishment.
(Surah Al-Ahqaf 46:24)
This shows us that Allah (SWT) often sends us warnings and makes us go through difficult phases to remind us to repent for our sinful behaviour. If we are sensible enough, then we should immediately repent and ask for forgiveness otherwise, Allah (SWT) may punish us in this life or the hereafter (Day of Judgment).

Prophet Hud (AS) taught the people of Ad to follow the path of righteousness and stop idol worshipping. He never forced them to do anything against their will, nor did Allah (SWT) command or give him the power to do so.
This reminds us to respect other people's free will and never impose our way of life or beliefs on them. We can guide them or show them a better path through our way of life and set a good example. Whether they choose to follow or not is up to them.
The story of Prophet Hud (AS) is a powerful narrative filled with profound lessons for believers. His life and message show the significance of tawheed, humility, patience, reliance on Allah (SWT) during difficult times, and the consequences of rejecting divine guidance.
By following these lessons, we can strive to cultivate these values in our own lives, strengthening our faith and closeness to Allah (SWT).
