Prophet Ishaq (AS), also known as Isaac in the Bible, is one of 25 Prophets mentioned in the Quran that were sent by Allah (SWT) to guide humanity. He was the son of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and was born after years of supplication (dua) made by his father.
Although the Quran doesn’t mention his story in much detail, from what we know about him, his life provides some valuable lessons to Muslims seeking to strengthen their faith and model their actions after prophets. Here are some valuable lessons you can learn from the life of Prophet Ishaq (AS).
Here are some key lessons to adopt from the life of Prophet Ishaq (AS):
One of the most prominent lessons from Prophet Ishaq (AS) 's life is the importance of gratitude to Allah (SWT). Always be thankful to Allah (SWT) and trust his plan.
Prophet Ishaq (AS) was born to Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his wife Sarah at a very old age when it was impossible to conceive a child. However, Prophet Ibrahim (AS) remained patient and continued praying to Allah (SWT) in hopes that the Almighty would eventually answer, and he did as mentioned in the Quran:
“And We gave him [Ibrahim] good tidings of Ishaq, a prophet from among the righteous.”
(Surah As-Saffat, 37:112)
This miraculous birth reminds Muslims to trust Allah’s (SWT) plan. Everything that happens will eventually happen because of his kindness. When blessings arrive, they must be received with thankfulness, as gratitude ensures the continuity of Allah’s (SWT) favour.
Children are the mirrors of their parents. This means that how they behave in public and their attitude depends on their upbringing. As parents, we should always try to raise our children according to Islamic principles and lead as an example they can follow.
This is exactly what we can learn from the story of the Prophet Ishaq (AS). He was raised in a household deeply rooted in faith and submission to Allah (SWT). His father, Prophet Ibrahim (AS), raised him as a faithful and righteous servant of Allah (SWT). This upbringing laid the foundation for his role as a Prophet and moral individual. As the Quran says:
“And We blessed him [Ibrahim] and Ishaq. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself.”
(Surah As-Saffat, 37:112-113)
The relationship between parents and children in the context of nurturing faith and morality is critical. Parents must teach their children through words and actions and lead by example on how to live in this world so they become an example for others to follow.

Most of the time, Prophet Ishaq (AS) is mentioned in the Quran alongside his father, Prophet Ibrahim (AS), and his son, Prophet Yaqub (AS). This demonstrates the significance of strong family ties in preserving and passing down the legacy of faith. Allah (SWT) highlights the importance of maintaining family ties and acknowledges the Prophetic lineage:
“And We bestowed upon him Ishaq and Yaqub and conferred upon his descendants Prophethood and Scripture.”
(Surah Al-Ankabut, 29:27)
This serves as a reminder for Muslims to honour and strengthen family ties. Families play a vital role in nurturing faith, kindness, and moral values. By fostering love, respect, and a shared commitment to Islamic principles, Muslims can ensure these values are passed down, creating a legacy of righteousness and spiritual growth for future generations.
One of the most important lessons from the life of Prophet Ishaq (AS) is that a sincere dua (prayer) is never ignored by Allah (SWT). It may take time, but Allah (SWT) answers it at the right moment.
Prophet Ishaq (AS) was the son of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who prayed for a child even in his old age. Allah (SWT) granted his prayer and gave him the Prophet Ishaq (AS), a blessing to him and the world. This story shows us that no matter how difficult or impossible something may seem, Allah’s mercy is always greater, and He can make anything happen.
For us, this teaches the importance of making sincere duas, having patience, and trusting in Allah’s perfect timing. No prayer goes unanswered when it comes from the heart.
Enhance your acts of dhikr and dua through our beautifully crafted tasbeehs (prayer beads), available at Riwaya Tasbeeh Collection. These tasbeehs are perfect for staying mindful of Allah (SWT) and strengthening your connection with Him through remembrance and heartfelt supplications.
These are a few meaningful lessons we can learn from the life of Prophet Ishaq (AS) to help us lead a good and meaningful life. His miraculous birth in his parents' old age, strong faith, gratitude to Allah (SWT), and commitment to spreading Allah’s (SWT) message show us the qualities of a true believer.
By learning from his life and applying these lessons, we can build a stronger connection with Allah (SWT), live in a way that pleases him, and lead our lives as an example for our children and others to follow in the community. As the Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The best of you are those who have the best manners and character.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 3559)
May Allah (SWT) help us follow His Prophets' example and succeed in this life and the hereafter. Ameen.
