These days, many of us get so caught up in our busy lives that we sometimes forget to remember Allah (SWT), our Creator, whose blessings make our lives so fulfilling. Even with the five daily prayers, it's easy to feel rushed or distracted. But taking a few moments to say something as simple as “Alhamdulillah” can help us remember Allah (SWT) and bring more Barakah (blessings) into our lives.
Sometimes, we forget to make Dhikr because of busy schedules or just being absorbed in work or daily tasks. But these simple words carry so much reward and are an easy way to reconnect with Allah (SWT) throughout the day. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said:
"Whenever a group of people gathers to remember Allah, His angels surround them, mercy covers them, tranquility descends upon them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him."
(Sahih Muslim 2700)
Today, we will discuss five dhikr you can do in your daily life. Your goal is to let these wonderful praises of the creator flow effortlessly from your heart.
The word ‘Dhikr’ means to remember someone. In Islam, the Dhikr means to remember Allah (SWT) using short sentences or phrases. These can be duas/supplications, Quranic verses or even hadith that glorify Allah (SWT). As Muslims, it is our duty to remember our creator and actively seek his blessings in all the matters of our life and Dhikr is a way to do that.
While dhikr means remembering Allah (SWT) using simple phrases, its rewards are greater than we can comprehend. The Prophet (PBUH) once said:
"Shall I not inform you of the best of your deeds, the purest of them with your Master, the highest of them in your ranks, and better for you than spending gold and silver, or meeting your enemy and striking their necks?" The companions said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "It is the remembrance of Allah (dhikr)."
(Sunan Ibn Majah 3790)
Dhikr plays a very important role in the lives of every Muslim, while it serves to remind us of Allah's (SWT) blessings and mercifulness it also brings peace to the mind and heart. In an ever crowded and busy life, we’re all seeking for simplicity, for peace of mind and for sukoon. Which is why Islam is such a beautiful religion, reminders from 1400 years ago are still extremely relevant on how we are able to balance our lives today. As mentioned in the Quran:
"Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest."
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28)
Dhikr is one of the easiest forms of worship and can be done anywhere and at any time. It only requires a few minutes or seconds to worship as we have to say certain words, phrases, and verses. You can say these words as many times as you want. You can also use a tasbeeh (prayer beads) to keep track of the dhikr words.
Check out the Riwaya Tasbeeh Collection and choose from our beautiful range of prayer beads for dhikr.
Here are the five most common ways to perform Dhikr:
Reading the Holy Quran is the best way to remember Allah (SWT). Even if we read a short Surah or Ayah, it is more than enough to remind us about Allah's (SWT) blessings and the laws he has made for us.
It is more important to seek blessings from the Qur'an than to hustle to increase our social status or revenue margin. These things will die with us in this life and have no significance in the hereafter, but these acts of worship carry a big reward that none of us should miss out on.
Just reciting one letter of the Quran equals ten rewards. As stated in one of the Hadiths:
Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will receive one good deed as ten good deeds like it. I do not say that Alif Lam Mim is one letter, but rather Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Mim is a letter.”
(Tirmidhi 2910)
The word ‘SubhanAllah’ means ‘Allah the merciful’ and is also known as Tabhi and is one of the most common Dhikr we can do. Saying this simple phrase carries more reward than we can imagine. As stated in one of the hadith of the Prophet (PBUH):
It was narrated by Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Messenger(PBUH) said, "Whoever says, 'Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi,' one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6405)
The word ‘Alhumdulillah’ means ‘praise to be Allah’ or ‘thanks to Allah’. It is called Tahmid in Arabic. It is also one of the most common dhikr to remember and thank Allah (SWT) and show gratitude for his blessings. We can say it in our routine whenever we want to thank Allah (SWT) after finishing a task.
Tahmid is often recited together with Tasbih (SubhanAllah) and Takbir (Allahu Akbar) after every prayer. The Prophet (PBUH) stated:
"There are some words, the reciters of which will never be disappointed. These are: Tasbih [saying 'Subhan-Allah' (Allah is free from imperfection)], thirty-three times, Tahmid [saying 'Al-hamdu lillah' (praise be to Allah)] thirty-three times and Takbir [saying 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is Greatest)] thirty-four times; and these should be recited after the conclusion of every prescribed prayer."
(Riyad as-Salihin 1420)

The phrase ‘‘Subhanallahi Walhamdulillahi Wala ilaha illallah Wallahu Akbar’ is among the most powerful forms of dhikr that we can do. The phrase translates to ‘Glory be to Allah, all praise is for Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest’
Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The most beloved speech to Allah consists of four, there is no harm with which one you begin, Subhana Allahi, wal hamdu lillaahi, wa la ilaaha il-lallah, wa Allahu akbar”
(Sahih Muslim 2137)
The phrase ‘La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah’ translates to ‘There is no power and no strength except with Allah’. The Prophet (PBUH) frequently recited this phrase whenever he left the house. Aside from providing the reader with Allah's (SWT) protection, it is also deemed a treasure of Jannah.
It was narrated that Abu Musa (RA) said:
"The Prophet (PBUH) heard me saying: 'La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (there is no power and no strength except with Allah).' He said: 'O 'Abdullah bin Qais! Shall I not tell you of a word which is one of the treasures of Paradise?' I said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Say: La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah (There is no power and no strength except with Allah).'
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6384)
So whenever you face hardships or get tempted to sin, remember to recite this dhikr dua to reinforce your belief in Allah's (SWT) strength and remind yourself that all help comes from him and him alone and whatever difficult situation you are in will eventually go away.
